Live, Work, and Play in Denton in 2023

A Look at Denton’s Demographics

Denton has a population of approximately 140,000 people and is home to two universities, the University of North Texas (UNT) and Texas Woman’s University (TWU), with nearly 55,000 students making up part of Denton residents. Part of the Golden Triangle that includes Dallas and Fort Worth, Denton is more than just a college town and is known for its welcoming, vibrant, and creative atmosphere.

The city has a thriving arts and culture scene and is also located near three lakes and outdoor areas that make planning leisure and entertainment easy. Just down I35 from Dallas and Fort Worth, Denton is the ideal place to be near enough to the hustle and bustle of the DFW metro area but far enough that you still have a small-town feel, the kind where you can grow a strong community and see familiar, friendly faces when you’re out in town.

Entrepreneur and Business Resources, Small Business Collaboration and Support

Denton is “remote-ready” for workers from companies all over the United States and even beyond, as described by Livability:

“Texas has the most significant state economy behind California. It has seen a massive boost in its population and economic health in the past few years when millions chose to relocate to work and live. The cost of living in Denton is right at the national average, with about half of the population owning their homes while the other half rents. With accessible fast internet and plenty of third spaces for working out of the office, Texas is a friendly and affordable place to relocate for remote work.”

Where To Work From in Denton

Denton has a variety of third spaces to work from (third spaces are typically defined as a place outside of either the home office or the traditional office building). While we love our local coffee shops, Stoke is proud to offer a work and meeting space with office amenities for affordable prices and flexibility. We have a variety of desk & seating options, spaces to take calls and hold meetings, and room to rest and decompress during the work day.

As Denton’s only coworking space, we have a unique perspective on the population and the needs of working professionals from all kinds of backgrounds. Some of our Stoke members are remote workers, some are freelancers and designers, and some own and run their own businesses. We also see students from both the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University make use of our coworking space, dedicated desks, and conference rooms as members.

Creatives Working in Denton

Witnessing the arts and culture scene in Denton, you can imagine that the creative energy flows through businesses here as well. Freelancers, small business owners, creative agencies, and innovative small businesses thrive in Denton from the support of the community, groups, and organizations that exist to help them grow and scale.

During Stoke’s annual conference for Denton’s entrepreneurs and creatives in 2023, FlintConf, attendees heard from some of these business owners in a panel discussion about the challenges they face and insights that they have for fellow creatives. Thistle Creative Reuse founder, Kari Meyercord-Westerman, moderated the panel, which included photographer Mike Ferreira, creative agency owner, Colective Creative Media, Anthony Najera, and owner of Savvie Studio, Savannah Kurka (photo below).
